Bar Harbor Dining
With so many incredible Bar Harbor restaurants, famous ice cream shops, and iconic lobster shacks to choose from, you owe it to yourself to get out and try as many as you can. From coffee on the go-to lobster in the rough, here are a few of our favorite restaurants on Mount Desert Island .
Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes
Less than a five-minute walk from your cottage, Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes has been delivering the authentic Maine lobster in the rough experience since 1979. Traveling with someone who doesn’t like lobster? Don’t worry! They have burgers and salads too!
The menu at this intimate restaurant changes daily with elegant dishes inspired by chef/owners Kyle and Marie Yarborough’s winter travels. Best of all, it’s located just outside the downtown area where the parking situation is slightly less competitive.
Sweet Pea’s Café
If you need a break from the busy summer scene here on MDI, enjoy fresh oysters or a piping hot pizza at Sweat Pea’s. Their delightful outdoor dining room is less than ten minutes from Salt Cottages on Route 3 in the opposite direction of downtown Bar Harbor.
Thirsty Whale Tavern
This local pub hangout’s menu includes casual seafood dishes including fish sandwiches & chowder.
Side Street Café
Live like a local – or at least eat like one — when you indulge in the classic comfort foods found at this family-owned eatery.
Specializing in some of the freshest seafood found on MDI’s coast, Galyn’s is a fine dining establishment with a laid, back casual vibe.
The Chart Room
Located just across the street from Salt Cottages, this Bar Harbor institution has been serving up fresh seafood for more than thirty years.
Specializing in American Fine Dining with Latin Flair, Havana’s menu is focused on dishes made with local, organic meats, produce and seafood.
You can’t leave Bar Harbor without stopping for a lobster roll chowder combo, and Stewman’s serves it in the rough.
More Dining Options on MDI
When you’re ready to venture beyond Bar Harbor for a meal, you will find an abundance of fantastic restaurants, cafes, and seafood shacks from which to choose.
Batson Fish Camp
Featuring the easy-going aesthetics of a vintage fishing camp, there’s no better place to enjoy light bites, burgers, salad, and their “soon to be famous” lobster roll.
Thurston's Lobster Pound
With views that rival the food, Thurston’s serves up all the classic Maine seafood fare you would expect to find at a lobster pound.
Specializing in locally inspired land and sea dishes featuring choice meats and freshly caught seafood from right here off the coast of Maine.
The menu at our sister property’s upscale restaurant is a celebration of Maine food featuring an eclectic mix of Down East essentials and imaginative creations.
